so... winter huh? [Liam]
I had high hopes for 2005, but it seems for me personally it was more of a 'building' year than one that will go down in the Liam hall of fame for any particular distinction. Perhaps speed. It's been a long time since I lived a year so aerodynamically devoid of regularly distributed landmarks or features.
I did pick up some knowledge of self I suppose. Also turned 23 in an unexpected place. Met some cool people. Re-met some others.
Twenty-three, though? Wow. I personally blame Mothers Against Drunk Driving for my sense of detachment from my own age. I don't fucking feel 23 even if the numbers add up. I feel about 19.999 with some 50 sprinkled in for good measure.
The problem as I see it is that I spent my 20th birthday thinking about how cool turning 21 was going to be instead of mulling over the fact there was a new guy in the decades column of my age. As such some part of me is still adjusting to the fact I'm in an entirely different ballgame now.
Besides, if I thought I was gonna be faded at 21, I had no idea 30 was going to happen someday. Camelbak and a padded cell. Fuggedaboudit.
This year I've reconciled that my status as a serially late-blooming procrastinator will likely follow me until my final hour, when I realize with shock and dismay that I was just getting used to planet earth. Surprise biatch!
This is all a bit heavy for a monday morning, though. At least by my standards. 2005 might be winding up but the old girl's still got a little life in her.
Reasons I'm glad it's december (or winter in general)
-Wearing slippers or driving barefoot while running the "floor" heater. This is my version of 'make fists with your toes on carpet' (Die Hard, 1988).
-Sweaters. Layering in general. Gloves. Scarves. Beanies. Thick stripes. The tasteful application of plaid. Elbow patches.
-The possibility of seeing snow at some point.
-Eggnog mixed with black coffee. One of the most underrated combinations since chicken and apple, or malt liquor and crime.
-The purchasing of hilariously well-suited gifts.
-Cutting out to help with decorations (read: Pretending like I'm not staying home to follow Winter CPL '05)
-Once I work up to it, Celebration Ale and Winterhook. It's been a thorough lager and pilsner year.
-Slippers.
