HOWDY [Liam]
Hi. Long time no blog.
Told myself I was going to slack extra big on brog2 until I finished my portfolio, and version 1 of LiamBoylan.com is up so... howdy.
Sent out my first real, complete job app this week.
I (pretty much for sure) nailed it, but I decided to pass. Would've been making graphics for a chain of adult bookstores... doing signs, posters and the print ads that run in newspapers. Apparently quite a few newspapers. 40ish. Good stuff. They seemed like a really cool bunch, but I was concerned about the applicability of porn ads (even really good porn ads, directed at a "less shady" sector of adult entertainment) on a serious graphic design resume. Especially for an entire year-long run like they were looking for. If it didn't fly as legit with my next employer, there would be a pretty sizeable gap there from 2006-2007.
Anyway, I was feeling pretty good about casting my line out there on craigslist again... then, during the phone call when I told them I was passing, I asked how the field had looked. Apparently they got about 200 applicants. Jesus, Mary and Buddha. Maybe I was luckier this time than I realized.
Too late now, anyway. Onward and upward!
...back to Fremont!
In other news, I've decided that the first Gorillaz album is waaay better than Demon Days. More soon.
